Retail-Lite POS is an offline-first point-of-sale solution for Kenyan retailers. These Terms of Use and Privacy Policy describe your rights and obligations when using our app and website.
2. Data Model — Offline First
- On-device by default: Your POS data (sales, inventory, receipts, customers, staff actions) stays on your device. We do not collect, copy, or store POS data on our servers.
- Your choice to back up/export: You may export or back up data (e.g., email to yourself or external drive) whenever you choose.
- Online-only for essentials: Internet is used only for account sign-in, optional device sync, updates, and payment method verification.
- Minimal data we collect: payment method metadata (e.g., M‑Pesa channel), your phone number for verification, and your business name.
3. Kenya Data Protection Act (2019) Compliance
- We act as a data controller only for the minimal personal data listed above; for POS data on your device you are the controller.
- Lawful basis: performance of contract and legitimate interest to secure accounts and payment verification.
- We do not sell personal data. Data is only shared with processors necessary to provide the service (e.g., payment gateways) or when required by law.
4. Your Responsibilities
- Keep devices secure and up to date. Use strong passcodes and, where offered, encryption.
- Back up exports regularly if you rely on long-term history.
- Use Retail-Lite POS only for lawful business activities and comply with tax and consumer protection laws.
5. Your Rights
- Access, correction, deletion (subject to legal retention), and withdrawal of consent for the minimal personal data we control.

6. Security & Retention
- Encryption in transit and at rest for the personal data we handle; on-device data protection depends on your device configuration.
- We retain the minimal personal data only as long as necessary for your account and legal obligations; business records you store locally are under your control.
7. Payments, Fees & Liability
- Subscriptions and payments processed via secure providers (e.g., M‑Pesa, Airtel Money, MTN Money, Cards). Third‑party outages are outside our control.
- Offline sales are queued for later sync if you opt in. You are responsible for the physical security of your device and exported files.
